We don’t usually associate Valentines Day with a healthy holiday, but as gift giving occasions go, Valentines Day is probably the time when most healthy gifts are sent. The top gift bought by men for the woman in their lives is flowers; possibly closely followed by potted plants. There’s even more women buying flowers or plants for their husbands or boyfriends.

The traditional way to buy flowers was to visit your local flower shop or order from a specialist flower delivery company, like InterFlora. But shopping habits have changed somewhat in recent years. With most supermarkets now offering fresh flowers and potted plants, especially around Valentines Day, more people are opting to buy flowers as part of their weekly shop. This has hit the local flower shops hard and there is less choice.

As the Internet has grown, there are now also many specialist, niche and unusual flower shops to choose from. Supermarkets only offer basic flower bouquets, such as a dozen red roses or white lilies, but specialist Internet flower shops offer something different with unusual bouquets, baskets and gifts.
