With most people aware of the problems our planet is facing and more of us focusing on green issues, is buying a green Christmas present becoming trendy? You’ll read about it in newspapers and magazines, it’s all over the Internet and TV; and has even made it into the cinema. So, is there anybody left who doesn’t know about global warming? Even George Bush has had to admit we might have a problem (even if he appears convinced some boffin in a white coat will sort it all out!).

What does buying green Christmas presents mean?
When you’re faced with buying countless Christmas presents this year, will you be thinking green? And what does buying a green Christmas present mean to you?
The greenest gift would probably involve you sending thoughts of love. No manufacturing process there. No landfill. No carbon footprint to worry about. Of course, there are various shades of green when it comes to the gifts we buy. Christmas should be a time for sending thoughts of love, but the reality is that it’s also a time for giving; and that means buying Christmas gifts.

How green is up to you?
So, once you’ve decided that you’ll actually be sending physical Christmas gifts, how green you go is up to you. You have to consider whether the person you’re buying the gift for will get any use from your present. A gift with the greenest of credentials would be completely wasted (and therefore not very green at all) if it went unused. You could say the ideal green Christmas gift would be one which promotes a healthy lifestyle, is kind to the planet and is loved by the recipient.
