What to do with unwanted Christmas gifts

Posted on 26/12/2008

If you’re lucky every Christmas gift you received was just what you’d hoped for. But there are many of us who’ve received something this Christmas that we just don’t want or know we won’t use.

It’s no use at the back of a cupboard

The question is what to do with these unwanted Christmas gifts? If we’re honest, we’ve probably put unwanted Christmas gifts at the back of a cupboard, at the bottom of a wardrobe or in a garage or shed in the past. Maybe we’ve fallen short of throwing them away out of respect for the person who gave us the gift.

Whether you’ve thrown away the unwanted gift or it’s sitting somewhere out of sight in your house, it’s not exactly the best solution.

Help a charity with your unwanted gifts

What about giving the gift to somebody else who’d get the use out of it? Obviously, to save the feelings of the person who gave you the gift you wouldn’t offer it back to them, or even somebody close to them. But if you know somebody who’d love the gift you’ve been given, why not give it to them – as a late Christmas gift if you like?

What about giving the unwanted gift (which is unused, a brand new item) to a Charity shop? There are many worthy causes who’d love to receive your unwanted Christmas gift. Giving to charity makes perfect sense, saves you the space and will make you feel much better about yourself.

Don’t waste a single gift you’ve received this year. You know which gifts you’ll use and which will still be unused the same time next year. Do yourself and somebody else a favour and put your unwanted Christmas gifts to good use.
