Your most important Christmas gift ever

Posted on 12/10/2008

Every year we send so many Christmas gifts, many of them to people outside out immediate circle of close friends and family members. This year, add another name to your Christmas gift list – the planet.

If you can buy a gift for Aunt Jane, who you’ve not spoken to for a year, surely you can add this gift to your list.

Send your new Christmas gift to somebody you love as an extra gift, or just treat yourself, but make it a point to add it to your list.

We’ve all read the newspaper and magazine articles, seen the documentaries and heard the news reports about global warming. We know that something has to be done and we know we’re running out of time to do it.

“If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem”

It’s not just a throw-away quote, it’s true. We can’t say that we’re concerned about the planet if we don’t actually try to do something about it.

By planting a tree, or at least dedicating a tree we can really make a difference. Every single tree makes a difference. If we could all make this grand gesture at Christmas we can make a huge impact.

Every tree, over its lifetime will capture hundreds of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere. Not only will you know your Christmas gift has made a difference, if you plant a tree in your own garden or neighbourhood you’ll be reminded of your gift to the planet every time you see it.

You can be reminded of your generosity every day for the rest of your life – and when was the last time you felt that way about any gift?

Please don’t read this and dismiss it…act now!

Hopefully this blog entry will inspire everyone who reads it, but if only one person acts then it’s made a difference. How big a difference we make depends on you!

What a good idea. I've been wanting to buy something like this for my husband, which I'm glad to say I've now done.

Bought the kids a tree to plant this year, so they'll have something to remember when they're older.
