Giving your children the best possible start in life is high, if not on top of every parent’s list. But more and more children rarely play outside? It’s just too easy to sit them in front of the TV, allow them to surf the Internet or play computer games. We’d all like an easy life, but sometimes you just have to put your foot down.

Playing outside means getting more exercise
We should try to encourage children to play outside, especially when they’re very young. Even if they’re only playing in their own back garden or yard, by getting them out of the house, they could have a healthier outlook for the rest of their lives. Playing outside will generally mean more exercise and could see them becoming interested in outdoor activities as they get older.
Obviously, it’s not always possible or practical for children to play outside. Take small steps and encourage outdoor play, even if it’s only occasionally. It’s better for their health than allowing them to sit in front of a TV screen or computer monitor. That’s not to suggest you ban them from watching TV or playing computer games, but moderation is the key.

Monkey see, monkey do
Hold on. Are you telling your children to play outside when all they see is you sat in front of the TV? Monkey see, monkey do. What better opportunity to get outdoors yourself a little more regularly by finding an outdoor activity to share with your children?
